NMB Postbank Headquarters
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
One of Holland's architectural wonders, the corporate
headquarters of NMB Postbank Group (now ING), is a labyrinth of
asymmetry. The modular signage accents the interior and exterior
forms with similar irregular polygons.
Exposed polished brass and raw letter forms allow
human interaction to "weather" the material over time.
This progressive oxidization treatment was taken from the building's
many artistic fixtures and sculptural gardens.
The pedestal directory maps mimic the hexagonal capitals
of the building's five towers and attach to the ends of the cascading
hand rails.
